Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry

Release Date: December 7th, 2017 Genre: Contemporary Romance

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.
The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.
Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.
Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.
And in a flash, she was gone.
Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.
She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.
Caged.
Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.
Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.
When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.
When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

I Heart Books Review

Behind the Bars (Music Street #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry
Review by Theresa Esterline
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The bars we find ourselves trapped behind are not always physical...

Tissues needed!! OMG, I just loved this book. My new favorite read of 2017!! Brittainy pulled so many emotions from me flawlessly. From tears streaming down my face and snot clogging my nose at the sad parts to almost spitting out my tea at the hilarious parts. Great characters in some awful situations, they grow as they decide how to move on. And now a bit about the story...

Jasmine and Elliott are similar and very different. She is confident, smart, and beautiful and her mom has her aspiring to be the triple threat pop star. He is shy, geeky, and skinny and keeps his head down trying to be invisible. But they both love music, she loves soul and he loves jazz. They come together and fall apart do to outside forces, but can they escape the bars holding them down to get behind the bars and just live in the music?

Favorite passages:
- Only five hundred and sixty-two days until graduation.
- “Beefy?” Katie giggled. “Elliott , you’re as beefy as a chicken wing.”
- “You get the chance to make bad moments seem perfect. I like that about it.”
- “‘Never goodbye, always goodnight until we wake again.’”
- “I’m going to need you to stop your Avengers training and give me more details than that.”
- “Sometimes lies are the only thing that keep me getting out of bed each morning.”
- “Don’t worry about yesterday, Elliott. You were given another chance. You can still show up tomorrow.”
- The way the shirt hugged his muscular arms was enough to get any woman pregnant on sight.
- “Do you know how many different types of vanilla frosting there are at Cake & Pie Bakery?” ... “Thirty-four different types of vanilla frosting,” they said in unison. “And we tried every single one,” Jason said. “Even though we knew we were getting chocolate, but free frosting samples aren’t something anyone should pass up,” Kelly explained.
